Too often I am called by a distressed client who has already paid someone only to receive poorly done or incomplete work. It is then my responsibility to find the best solution - often a redesign or retrofit - and at the most affordable price. 

This job was initiated by another contractor and abandoned before completion. While I was not hired in this instance to rectify or complete the cesspit and soak-away system, the client asked for my advice on how best to proceed. 

It's painful for me every time I encounter poor workmanship and downright 'bad work' in many instances. Let's endeavour as tradesmen to do better by our clients.

When electricians fail to conduct due diligence or simply lack the requisite knowledge and experience, it can lead to seriously hazardous situations. 

In this short real life example, I explain the importance of correctly stepping down breakers and panels in electrical panel installation.

How often should you clean your water heater or tank? I recently got asked this question and I decided to share a bit about the importance of maintenance schedules.

Most people don't call me until something is broke or goes wrong. Honestly, you can save yourself both money and stress by regular scheduled servicing of appliances and equipment. A conventional residential water heater in a typical single family household for example would be about 30  gallons and require maintenance annually - depending on water quality. It costs on average from $2500 to $3500 to purchase and I charge between $300-$500 to service one. A well maintained heater can lasts you 20+ years, and ,if it is an energy efficient model, will repay for some of its costs over its lifetime. 

Failure to service your heater regularly is likely to result in extreme build-up (calcification) and eventually clogging, thereby restricting water flow. Water stagnation can quickly lead to a funky odour when the tap is open and water is flowing.

Water Heater Cleaning - Maintenance & Servicing. How often should you clean your water heater/tank?

Today, I was called in to assess a plumbing complaint about a clogged face basin.

Many of my customers call about plumbing woes. Despite how critical it is to our very existence, often times we do not value our access to water until it is disrupted.

Remember, avoid hair, oil, and other clinging or clumping substances down your bathroom sink. The narrow and short drain pipe under the basin can be easily clogged by hair, tissue, etc. making your indoor plumbing a nightmare.

Allow me to share a bit of recent experience with sourcing roofing material in the local market.

For this particular project, the ᴘᴇʀꜰᴏʀᴍᴀɴᴄᴇ of all selected materials is of utmost importance as the resulting apartment must be competitively priced for rent on our residential market.
Call it a demonstration, if you will of what is possible in terms of design especially when performance and sustainability are at the forefront.

Even the smallest of leaks can noticeably impact water pressure. Having your water lines checked on a regular basis or at the earliest sign of trouble can save you both money and water in the long run.
